jminor Posted January 6, 2012 at 11:31 PM Report Posted January 6, 2012 at 11:31 PM Hello, My question is regarding the proper etiquate for contacting someone in China via e-mail. I was researching equipment for making training videos at work, and found videos of a young woman making music with iPhones and iPads. It opened my eyes to new ways to record and produce videos, and I feel compelled to thank her for the inspiration. I want to be proper and respectful so advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, John Quote
liuzhou Posted January 7, 2012 at 10:07 AM Report Posted January 7, 2012 at 10:07 AM There are no particular rules other than the same politeness you would use anywhere else. Spam will, as it should, be ignored. I would suggest keeping any message short, simple and to the point. Be aware however, that email is not the major form of communication in China. People often don't check their mail for weeks on end (and, so often lose their free online email services and have to start over with a new registration - or they forget their passwords and can't access their mail, again necessitating a new email address) - so don't necessarily expect a reply. 3 Quote
jminor Posted January 7, 2012 at 04:36 PM Author Report Posted January 7, 2012 at 04:36 PM Thank you for your reply. I didn't want my first communication with someone to be a total blunder. I will heed your advice, keep it short and sweet and to the point. Thanks again, John Quote
Erbse Posted January 7, 2012 at 05:59 PM Report Posted January 7, 2012 at 05:59 PM If you want to talk about politically sensitive matters you should avoid email service providers with a government friendly attitude. 1 Quote
jminor Posted January 7, 2012 at 10:32 PM Author Report Posted January 7, 2012 at 10:32 PM As this will be my first contact with this person, any discussion of a political nature would not be appropriate. This will be a casual personal communication. On a side note, I am learning quite a bit from this site. Quote
