calamindos Posted January 9, 2012 at 05:47 PM Report Posted January 9, 2012 at 05:47 PM I need to give a call to an 0845 number in England and looking for an option that would be cheaper than making a direct international call from my mobile (China Mobile). Any suggestions are welcome. Quote
cababunga Posted January 9, 2012 at 07:05 PM Report Posted January 9, 2012 at 07:05 PM I now use 12voip.com for all my long distance needs. You would need to create an account on their site and deposit minimum €10. Then there are three ways you can use them. If you have a smartphone, you can install SIP app and make a call over WiFi. Same way you can use your computer. Call from anywhere to 0845 will cost you 0.323 CNY/min. If you can't use the first option, you can register your phone number at their site and make a call through their gateway number. They seem to have only one gateway in China with number 4006555376, so this option depends on how much you have to pay to call it. Another way is to request a callback at their site. You need to choose phone-to-phone and fill the form with your number in China and your destination number in UK. You'll receive a call in seconds and after you pick up, the system will try to connect you to your destination. The cost of this option is sum of rates to call both, originating and terminating numbers. Your target number, as I mentioned, costs 0.323 CNY/min and your number in China will be free (due to you getting some number of days of free calling to certain countries after each deposit). Want to mention also that if you choose to register with them (or any of their affiliates, and it seems to be a lot of them), try to avoid reusing passwords you use elsewhere as it looks like they store them unencrypted. 1 Quote

maxdmind Posted January 10, 2012 at 07:28 AM Report Posted January 10, 2012 at 07:28 AM I think Skype will be a good choice,It's cheap. Quote
OneEye Posted January 10, 2012 at 09:52 AM Report Posted January 10, 2012 at 09:52 AM Second for Skype. I pay US$3 per month for unlimited calls to any number in the US. Works on Wi-Fi and 3G, I believe, but I haven't paid for 3G service since I first moved here. Quote
roddy Posted January 10, 2012 at 10:31 AM Report Posted January 10, 2012 at 10:31 AM May also be worth checking to see if there are any alternative numbers. Quote
BeijingStyle Posted February 3, 2012 at 07:09 AM Report Posted February 3, 2012 at 07:09 AM You could consider combining something like Fring with the many voip providers out there. I used Fring two years ago but I dont know how usable it is now. Most likely, there are other good alternatives out there. Quote
