Literature suggestions

I have studied Chinese vocabulary and grammar and now wish to integrate my knowledge and develop a good writing style by reading Chinese literature. Would you recommend reading newspaper articles, or reading novels by any particular authors?

Besides textbooks, what have you read so far? Perhaps you can join the others to read 余華's novel “活着"? Take a look at this thread -> http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/34866-reading-yu-huas-to-live/ and see if you you can read it comfortably.

If you find it suitable for your level, you can read the other books by Yu Hua, or take a look at those on the thread "What are you reading". There are a lot of different suggestions on this forum, but without knowing your level it is difficult to make more meaningful suggestions.
