bhchao Posted January 14, 2012 at 11:10 PM Report Posted January 14, 2012 at 11:10 PM A good documentary on Sun Liren, one of the most accomplished Chinese generals during the Second World War. Most Taiwanese know him and Zhang Xueliang as the two most prominent individuals placed under house arrest during Taiwan's martial law era. Sun was placed under 33 years of house arrest. His popularity with Western leaders, especially Washington, aroused the Chiangs' jealousy to the point where they feared he would overthrow them. When Sun was confined, the Chiangs erased all his achievements during WWII and the Chinese civil war off the record. His accomplishments include victories over the Japanese in Burma and Lin Biao in mainland China. President Ma Yingjeou recently apologized to Sun's family for the injustice meted out to him. The documentary touches upon his background and achievements, his relationship with Chiang Kaishek, and the series of events that led to his lifetime house arrest.
