When it comes 23th of Dec., 糖瓜 need to be prepared 1. 腊八粥 - Make Laba porridge Old times, people have a good custom, before buying food materials for new year festival, people firstly eat out all rest of grains and cereals in last year, so they mix all kind of beans, grains, nuts together to make porridge to eat, very delicious, I like it very much! So we called it Laba, because it usually is made at 8th of Dec(8 pronounced 'ba' ), and also because there are required at least 8 type of materials to make Laba porridge normally. 2. 买糖瓜儿,祭灶(ji4zao1) - Buy tang2gua1er, sacrifice for Kitchen God About legend of 'Kitchen God':In ancient time, the old couple because of poor so go home son of mine coal mines. Son, so long to don't think to look old son. In the way of man met a barefoot, they get along very well. That old man is the kid, yan to receive 100 lives. Mines For the son of man left his life. Hobberdy agreed, but he must be kept secret. So his son's life saved. Three years later, it is the man of the evening, 22, and this matter in the chat wife. By day, so the kitchen to hear the kitchen god said to the jade emperor was punished. Then after that people in 23, please include this calendar, a cake of sugar is hoping he more than 9 say something nice, but hope stuck his mouth, don't gossip (quot from http://zhidao.baidu....n/81575775.html) But Nowadays, people living in cities are seldom do sacrifice '灶王' at home, this ritual has been changed to 2 main kind of things family often do annual year - buy tanggua as new year candy(I think it is just like 'ginger bread'?), or/and post picture of couple of '灶王' as decoration~ what does 灶王 looks like? or What is 糖瓜儿? http://t3.gstatic.co...Ds0lhA8VGqVhBRT How to make 糖瓜儿? 4 Quote

And normally, we can do '拜年' each other as early as one month before lunar New Year's Eve, and as late as one month after lunar New Year's Eve. liuzhou Posted January 20, 2012 at 07:42 AM Report Posted January 20, 2012 at 07:42 AM You shouldn't use the names January to December to describe the traditional Chinese calendar months. It just gets totally confusing. What do you do in those years where the Chinese calendar has thirteen months? Just call them months one to twelve. 4 Quote

imron Posted February 14, 2012 at 02:16 AM Report Posted February 14, 2012 at 02:16 AM imron, have you prepared red colored dressing, like red socks, red belt? This is a tradition in China, It's told that dressing in red will bring people lucky in his 本命年 Nope There's a fine line sometimes between tradition and superstition. The tradition stuff generally interests me (it's nice to know what zodiac animal I am), the superstition stuff (wearing red socks all year for good luck) not so much. Quote
