imron Posted January 24, 2012 at 10:13 PM Report Posted January 24, 2012 at 10:13 PM What about finding work with English consulting companies in China? Sure, but what qualifications can you bring to the table besides being a native English speaker? These companies almost certainly already have other native English speakers working for them who usually have skills and qualifications besides just being an English speaker. I know in Korea there are positions where native English speakers sit there listening to Korean businessmen attempt to read a loud in English and the job of the speaker is to correct their pronunciation. So basically tutoring? Which you already ruled out. Quote

Another point is that it sounds like you'll be looking for part time, flexible work. All of the consultancies I know of (in Beijing, at least) hired younger members strictly as full time workers than did a huge amount of work (as is typical in consulting, anywhere), and those with limited experience as poorly paid interns for the first several months. Only senior experts (in the true sense of the word, i.e. graduate level degrees and decades of good experience) have the luxury of dictating their own schedules, and even they work crazy hours. There are easy to find jobs and money in China; many of the easier ones involve teaching English. There are many interesting non-English positions for foreigners in China; many of them are specialized and highly competitive and by no means easy to come by. Quote

ms.foo Posted September 11, 2012 at 11:45 AM Report Posted September 11, 2012 at 11:45 AM So, where might one post online to advertise these 150/hr tutoring services? (FWIW, I do have a BA and tutoring experience, this was just the most relevant thread I could find. I'm also trying to figure out loan repayment while in school in BJ, and this sounds easier than fighting SallieMae.) Quote
