dlee85 Posted January 23, 2012 at 06:54 PM Report Posted January 23, 2012 at 06:54 PM I've read that it is not possible to work on a student visa and that you have to apply for a part time work permit in order to do so. Has anybody had any experience of getting a part time work permit? Quote
roddy Posted January 23, 2012 at 07:08 PM Report Posted January 23, 2012 at 07:08 PM Never heard of such a thing. Where did you read it? Quote

roddy Posted January 23, 2012 at 08:44 PM Report Posted January 23, 2012 at 08:44 PM Is it online at all, preferably in Chinese? Maybe there's some arrangement somewhere that makes it possible (well, it's possible anyway. Legal) but it'd be the first time I've heard of it. I don't hear everything though. Quote
dlee85 Posted January 23, 2012 at 09:11 PM Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 at 09:11 PM No idea how to search for it in Chinese! English version here: http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/ipeir/china_unit/SWUFE_Guidebook.pdf. page 25. This is the 07/08 guidebook. I read it in the most recent one. Doesn't give much info though. Quote
Matty Posted January 27, 2012 at 05:12 AM Report Posted January 27, 2012 at 05:12 AM Interesting... It might be worth looking into.. It would be worth being a student again if I can get that. http://school.cucas.edu.cn/HomePage/39/2009-06-10/page_410.shtml http://www.visalawint.com/index.aspx?page=S10_2 1 Quote
dlee85 Posted January 27, 2012 at 10:17 PM Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 at 10:17 PM Cheers Matty. A useful article there. I sincerely hope it is possible. I'm in two minds about whether I should stay and develop my career here in the UK or go and learn Chinese full time! Being able to find related work whilst studying is the best of both worlds. I wonder if engineering is considered high technology. Quote
Matty Posted January 28, 2012 at 11:25 PM Report Posted January 28, 2012 at 11:25 PM Well, in 6 years I've never heard of this and I don't think the PSB representatives I've spoken to have either. Then again there's a lot they don't know of what happens after the visa is processed.I'd definitely contact the school and ask for more details on that. Also many people do illegal private 1-1 tutoring. However I would not recommend this. Quote
New Members cvschicago Posted January 31, 2012 at 06:01 PM New Members Report Posted January 31, 2012 at 06:01 PM I know in the U.S. they have part time H1-B visa, but I doubt there is no such thing as part time working permit in China. Quote
New Members Alexanderf Posted May 13, 2012 at 01:24 PM New Members Report Posted May 13, 2012 at 01:24 PM Is the following information true? WORKING WHILE STUDYING IN CHINA International students can work for 12 hours per week in China during study period. But in summer and winter vacations international students can work more than 12 hours if they have permission. Quote
jirbau Posted July 12, 2012 at 04:30 PM Report Posted July 12, 2012 at 04:30 PM I have read somewhere that International students can work for 12 hours per week but some say that students cannot work legally. What is the real deal? Does getting part time work for the allowed 12 hours still require getting a part-time work visa? Where will you get such visa? In your home country or in China directly? Will be studying in Beijing this September, so any advice on the matter will be greatly appreciated. Quote
amitairawati Posted August 8, 2012 at 09:55 AM Report Posted August 8, 2012 at 09:55 AM @jirbau.. I saw the same thing stated at this website: http://www.studymbbsinchina.com/FAQ.htm I wonder if its true.. It will be great if we can do part-time job over there.. Quote
jirbau Posted August 11, 2012 at 03:17 PM Report Posted August 11, 2012 at 03:17 PM @amtairawati Yah! It would be great and more productive if we can do part-time job! I'm really confused on their rules. Some say that only students who takes a course with an internship required are those that are allowed to work on a student visa. Quote
