Shei Posted January 31, 2012 at 08:56 PM Report Posted January 31, 2012 at 08:56 PM Is it possible to buy used books from China, and how? I live in Europe and have no problems buying new books from Amazon.cn. I have tried to register at kongfz.com, but the only payment options are through a Chinese bank account or Alipay. They don't seem to accept foreign credit cards. Are there any other websites who sell used books and ship to Europe? Quote
xuexiansheng Posted January 31, 2012 at 10:37 PM Report Posted January 31, 2012 at 10:37 PM I've bought a few books from abebooks.com. The used books are pretty cheap and seem to have a good selection of Chinese titles. Quote
Shei Posted February 1, 2012 at 04:34 PM Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 at 04:34 PM None of the titles I am looking for unfortunately. I thought about contacting a few sellers at kongfz.com, but they don't publish their email address on the website, only QQ and phone numbers. Quote
imron Posted February 1, 2012 at 10:41 PM Report Posted February 1, 2012 at 10:41 PM Are you sure Alipay doesn't accept foreign credit cards? Their website says they do. Quote
Shei Posted February 2, 2012 at 08:16 PM Author Report Posted February 2, 2012 at 08:16 PM Alipay seems to require a Chinese bank account. http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/34143-alipay-without-chinese-bank-account/ Quote
imron Posted February 2, 2012 at 09:52 PM Report Posted February 2, 2012 at 09:52 PM That's according to a poster in America who may not have known any better and just assumed you need a Chinese bank account. Alipay themselves have this to say, and have a full walk-through of the process here. I've not personally done this, so I can't attest whether it works or not, but I'd at least try it before deciding it didn't work. Quote
Shei Posted February 3, 2012 at 07:44 AM Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 at 07:44 AM True, I will give it a try and report back here if it works. Thanks for the reply and links! Quote
Shei Posted February 4, 2012 at 05:06 PM Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 at 05:06 PM It didn't work. A registration at Alipay requires a Taobao account, and their registration process requires an Asian phone number (China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong or Macau). Buying books through a Taobao agent seems to be the only alternative. If I didn’t want to use an agent, could I order direct from Taobao?Wanna go rogue, eh? We admire your spirit! But unfortanetly, you won’t be able to add any money to your Taobao account. Taobao’s Alipay (like Paypal) can only be funded by Chinese banks, or by buying recharge slips locally in China.
