patko Posted February 2, 2012 at 11:07 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2012 at 11:07 AM Nihao Wo jiao Patrick. I was talking to strangers on Omegle for fun when I stumbled upon a chinese girl. I was interested having never had contact with a chinese person before and maintained a conversation in english. I added her to msn and to impress her started looking for chinese sentences to say. Before I knew it I was looking for chinese words and sentences the whole time. I got fascinated and intrigued by chinese culture. Mengjia has to go to school in a few days and I will not have anyone to talk to and practice my pinyin with. So I would like to ask the forum wether there are any willing people that would like to talk to me from time to time so as not to loose the momentum iv got going. I don't neccesarily want you to teach me mandarin, just to point out flaws in my sentences etc... This is the only way I could think of of getting in contact with chinese speaking people. PM me if you are interested in light and fun conversations. A little bit about me: I'm a 21 year old male from Belgium studying Computer Technology (one of the reasons I cannot take classes in mandarin). Thanks in advance, zaijian! abcdefg Posted February 3, 2012 at 01:28 AM Report Share Posted February 3, 2012 at 01:28 AM ...anyone to talk to and practice my pinyin with. It will be difficult to find chat partners using Pinyin. Try again once you know Hanzi characters; then it will be easy.
Meng Lelan Posted February 3, 2012 at 02:18 AM Report Share Posted February 3, 2012 at 02:18 AM Just join italki.com and you will be getting thousands of invites to be friends and to chat, and I would imagine many could do it in pinyin.
patko Posted February 3, 2012 at 03:52 PM Author Report Share Posted February 3, 2012 at 03:52 PM Thank you for the response. @abcdefg: I can't immediatly jump into characters, I need to master sentence structure first I think. I am already learning characters but I feel more comfortable in pinyin atm, thanks for the advice though. @Meng Lelan: The website looks cool, thanks. abcdefg Posted February 4, 2012 at 03:53 AM Report Share Posted February 4, 2012 at 03:53 AM Sure. No harm in giving it a try. I remember when I was just starting out and real proud of my beginner Pinyin; wrote a medium long e-letter to a Chinese friend. She had to get her seven year old child to read it to her out loud before she knew what it meant and could then reply (in English.)
patko Posted February 4, 2012 at 02:12 PM Author Report Share Posted February 4, 2012 at 02:12 PM Yea me too haha, sometimes I think 1+1=2 but then some other chinese rule causes 1+1 not to be 2 anymore, confusing sometimes. Btw I like the background of the character and how they are composed, makes learning them very interesting. I found a website memrise.com and it works like a regular flashcard software but it also tells you how you write bird and how chicken is a composite word of bird and right hand. Right hand being someone you can always count on ie chicken. MIND. BLOWN
