icebear Posted February 3, 2012 at 01:50 PM Report Posted February 3, 2012 at 01:50 PM From their most recent newsletter: There's also some very exciting news to report: ChinesePod has been acquired by Bigfoot Ventures, a Hong Kong-based communications, technology, education, entertainment and new media company. This move will allow us to offer you, our beloved Poddies, a more entertaining, comprehensive and beneficial ChinesePod experience down the road - we're psyched about it! Good for the owners, who I think cultivated a good service and good brand over the years and deserve to cash in. But I'm also hoping that this doesn't result in significant changes to the pace of new lesson offerings... I'm a bit skeptical, but we'll see. Any thoughts? 1 Quote
kdavid Posted February 3, 2012 at 11:37 PM Report Posted February 3, 2012 at 11:37 PM My first reaction was the same: I bet they got a bucket of cash. Good for them. I remember when they were still relatively new in 2006. They've come a long way. 1 Quote
simplet Posted February 4, 2012 at 01:49 AM Report Posted February 4, 2012 at 01:49 AM I wonder what that means for all the other lesser-known-pods or vaporpods (like germanpod, damn I would have loved for that one to come true). Quote
mikeedward Posted February 7, 2012 at 02:30 AM Report Posted February 7, 2012 at 02:30 AM Could they really have been worth much money? They've been downsizing for years and I was half-expecting them to go bankrupt, plus with their numerous blog posts about obtaining investors for numerous site upgrades lets me think they had essentially no cash in the bank.
