phrase for "randomly throw things into the air, see how they land"

there is a phrase I recall that seemed to express the meaning in the title that involved a 散 character. Can someone name it?? Shot in the dark?

I like that one. I looked that one up and I like it's origin and it seems quite descriptive. Does it particularly convey anything about the flower petals landing randomly, or is the emphasis on the sheer numbers of them swirling?

I think if you use it as a chengyu it describes the condition of plenty of things falling from above like petals.

PS - is it what you were looking for?

I think 天女散花 can work. The original one I was searching out seemed to have been from the persective of first throwing the item up in the air and it would just randomly fall into place with no certain landing point; I faintly recall searching "random" as a keyword before stumbling across the expression in question.

For context, I was writing a renren journal about my seemingly random usage of 感叹词 in my Chinese as if I just 'throw 感叹词 up in the air and wherever they 'land' in my speech'... haha those particles are an enigma to me.

There is also a possibilty that I am imagining things and the word in question does not have a 散 character. In that case it is truly a needle in a haystack and I wouldn't trouble you to guess my word.
