I am shocked. Any fans of Whitney here? I know her personal life was a mess, that she married the wrong man, and that drugs destroyed her voice and career.

But there's no denying that she had a great voice and singing ability that could inspire. The same can be said of Michael Jackson.

Why do these great talents die so young?

Many people with great talents live / lived a long life - Stephen Hawking, Michaelangelo, etc. As many as those who died young I guess. It is just that people tend to remember those who died young better. Perhaps we can't generalise too much.

its so sad she had to die at 48, hell my grandmama is still leaving at 82.

I was fairly shocked to hear of her death, and remarkably saddened (even though I wouldn't consider myself a fan). I guess her songs reminded me a lot of random times growing up.

Her version of the National Anthem is probably my favorite of all time.
