icebear Posted February 21, 2012 at 09:54 AM Report Share Posted February 21, 2012 at 09:54 AM I think the plan is that you would also be able to use it as your ATM card to draw cash...

Silent Posted February 21, 2012 at 05:43 PM Report Share Posted February 21, 2012 at 05:43 PM oh then it is electronic payment, not cash. AFAIK there is no cash function yet, but paying by phone is already (experimentally) in use in many places. The step towards cash isn't a huge one. By mentioning the cash/payment I just wanted to stress the increasing dependency and risk. Many people don't know any phonenumbers anymore and make no backup. (recently it seems to improve as phonebooks get 'automaticly' linked to an online adressbook). Just imagine, you're travelling, loose your phone and got stuck somewhere without money, without contact info from home to get help, no info on where to go and no means to communicate then culturally different bodylanguage. Of course there's always a solution but if you never considered it and suddenly loose all the functionality that a smartphone can have you will be heavily challenged. The same would be true of a poorly prepared traveler 30 years ago losing their black book of phone numbers. Moral of the story, always back up, either in the cloud, hard drive, or hard copy.
