New Members gbatemper Posted February 14, 2012 at 07:45 AM New Members Report Posted February 14, 2012 at 07:45 AM How to use 给 as a preposition? I quite don't get how to use 给 as a preposition. I managed to get the first one, but I am really confused on how to use it properly. I am supposed to fill out the middle part. Can someone explain to me how am I supposed to use "gei" in this structure? 1. Wo gei nimen jieshao yi xia (This is the one I think I got correct) 2. Li Laoshi kan ta de shu 3. Xiao gao kan ta baba mama de zhaopian 4. Xiao Wang ting Zhongguo yinyue 5. Ta jieshao yi ge pengyou 6. Gao Xiaoyin he Zhongguo cha Quote
陳德聰 Posted February 14, 2012 at 10:59 AM Report Posted February 14, 2012 at 10:59 AM I don't get it, are you supposed to change the sentences to ones that mean the same thing just with 给... ??? Quote
skylee Posted February 14, 2012 at 11:18 AM Report Posted February 14, 2012 at 11:18 AM Gei here means to allow, to let, or to do somthing for someone (ref). The pattern I believe is someone (can be the speaker himself, in which case it is usually omitted) + "gei" + someone else + (to) do something. Hope this helps. 1 Quote

panpan86 Posted February 15, 2012 at 05:49 AM Report Posted February 15, 2012 at 05:49 AM Hm I'm not a grammar expert, but is this what you mean? 2. Li Laoshi gei wo kan ta de shu 3. Xiao gao gei wo kan ta baba mama de zhaopian 4. Xiao Wang gei wo ting Zhongguo yinyue 5. Ta gei wo jieshao yi ge pengyou 6. Gao Xiaoyin gei wo he Zhongguo cha Peter Quote
panpan86 Posted February 15, 2012 at 12:43 PM Report Posted February 15, 2012 at 12:43 PM Yes, just put gei + (the person who the action was directed towards) in the blank space e.g. Gei wo kan ba! - Let me see/show me Gei ta kan ba! - let him/her see/show him/her Gei dajia kan ba! - let everyone see/ show everyone Quote
