Beijing2012 Posted February 17, 2012 at 09:12 PM Report Posted February 17, 2012 at 09:12 PM I am interested in teaching English at a public university in Beijing. However, I have no ESL experience (though I have one year of tutoring experience in other subjects). I cannot find many public university jobs in Beijing and those that I do find want one or two years experience. Is this the standard requirement now and where exactly does one go to find the many positions at public colleges that are supposedly out there for Beijing. Quote
yialanliu Posted February 20, 2012 at 01:23 AM Report Posted February 20, 2012 at 01:23 AM Public universities have the highest requirement for people aspiring to teach. Nowadays, the best schools have asked for teaching degrees. Also, in China, it is also required that your degree must be one level higher than the degree you are teaching (public positions). For instance, if you are teaching high shcool, you are required to have a bachelors and if you are teaching bachelors you need a graduate degree. That's the rule if you actually teach. There's a seperate category of teachers for elementary school and they don't teach. They basically sit there and have kids repeat after them. In all honesty, they are used more for advertising than teaching because elementary schools which are private, wants to claim they can afford a foreigner who can "teach". I'd suggest that you teach elementary school if you don't have the required credentials. University level has a good amount of requirements. 1 Quote
