westmeadboy Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:05 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:05 AM I just came across this free OCR app on Android: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tencent.qqvision It supports both traditional and simplified characters (need to be sure to switch the top-left icon to 汉译英 first). No pinyin though. Anyone else tried it?
Demonic_Duck Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:40 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:40 AM Useful link, but my Chinese is too basic to be able to understand any of the interface. Is there any way to pause the screen and copy the 汉字 to the clipboard?
Gymnosopher Posted February 23, 2012 at 04:55 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 04:55 AM (edited) Very good find - looks like there's a version for iPhone too http://www.haoyu8.cn...njian/1190.html (loving the low budget video at the bottom). Currently using an iPod so can't test these myself. @ Demonic_Duck - from the looks of it, you get to the main screen when you open the app and then as westmead noted press the top left button to choose which language pair you want to look at. Then you can choose eng to chinese, chinese to eng, or french/german to chinese so choose the second down. Looks like this will just give a real time pop-up translation for what's in the centre (with top-right link letting you go to dictionary for that term presumably), but you can take a photo at the bottom and then select from on-screen words - the top middle option then seems to be 'send' like you'd get of email etc. but should have a copy to paste board function there. Interestingly, also looks like there'a s soso version http://itunes.apple....d458025773?mt=8 though more aimed at seeing who people in photos are? The soso version seems to be free on the app store but the QQ one looks like it may need to be put on jailbroken devices? Correction: the SOSO version is the same as the QQ one, should have followed the link at the bottom of the page from my first link. US app store http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/soso-hui-yan/id458025773?mt=8 Chinese app store http://itunes.apple.com/cn/app/id458025773?mt=8 Edited February 23, 2012 at 05:12 AM by Gymnosopher
Gymnosopher Posted February 23, 2012 at 05:02 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 05:02 AM A shaky hand going Chinese to English on youku http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMzA3MTExODMy.html looks a little less impressive, though there are a lack of videos testing it - perhaps someone could put one up for us?
