New Members lucasdeskywalker Posted February 24, 2012 at 09:19 PM New Members Report Share Posted February 24, 2012 at 09:19 PM I found a folder in my recent folders list on my computer that looks like Chinese? Will someone translate this for me? I attached the image. It's small so because it's a screen shot of a folder name in Recent Folders. You'll have to zoom. Thanks in advance. Peter2010 Posted February 25, 2012 at 01:17 AM Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 at 01:17 AM It seems like 癫撽口㩆, but does not make sense to me.
New Members lucasdeskywalker Posted February 25, 2012 at 01:39 AM Author New Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 at 01:39 AM It's strange because it keeps showing up in my current folders. It doesn't seem to link anywhere, but the computer moves it down as I use various folders (all English) and this folder gets moved to the top of the list occasionally like someone is using it? Shelley Posted February 25, 2012 at 12:10 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 at 12:10 PM Are you expecting such a folder, have you downloaded something and this is it? If you do not recognize it or need it, delete it. The first character seems to mean crazy, mental. This may be a virus or other malware. The 2nd character I can't recognize, the third one is just a square which it used when the font cannot reproduce the character. If it was me I would delete it. Good luck Shelley
New Members lucasdeskywalker Posted February 25, 2012 at 02:59 PM Author New Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 at 02:59 PM I was able to use the Folder "Properties" function to get the actual text. 癤㩤㩆 Google says the first character means "boil". But Google doesn't know the next two. I can remove the folder from my recent but it comes back and the path is to the desktop? Thanks for your help translating. creamyhorror Posted February 25, 2012 at 09:26 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 at 09:26 PM This sort of text is mojibake and the result of a technical error in the encoding. It's not Chinese at all. The immediate giveaway is the rare characters there.
Shelley Posted February 25, 2012 at 11:42 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2012 at 11:42 PM @creamyhorror Would you recommend deleting this file? Do you think it is malicious, it seems like it to me. My advice was to delete it, maybe run an antivirus or malwares prog. Just wondered for this instance and future ones. New Members lucasdeskywalker Posted February 26, 2012 at 12:11 AM Author New Members Report Share Posted February 26, 2012 at 12:11 AM It's not a file and there is nothing to delete. It's a shortcut to a folder that is in my "Recent Folders". When I click on it, it says missing file. The mystery is why it keeps coming up in my recent folders list? I can remove it from the list and it keeps coming back, implying that something or someone is using a folder on my system named these strange characters? I have up-to-date antivirus running. creamyhorror Posted February 26, 2012 at 05:14 AM Report Share Posted February 26, 2012 at 05:14 AM Hmm, no idea about that, Shelley. I would first try to track down the actual folder and see what's inside it. It could also be a plain bug in the OS's recent folders data. Shelley Posted February 28, 2012 at 10:59 AM Report Share Posted February 28, 2012 at 10:59 AM Oh, well it does seem strange. Looking inside would be the way to go and see what it is. I don't know what to suggest for the OP. Maybe it needs a computer expert to help (not me:) ). Good luck Shelley
