I spent my first year in China teaching English in some 3rd tier city. During that time I made friends with a few professors at the normal college in said city. After my teaching contract ended, I decided to try and apply to a graduate program through the CSC. I talked the professors about it, and they told me I should just go to school at their university. After all, we were all familiar, advanced students at the school were scarce so the school could provide more personalized language classes for me, and more importantly the school could provide a full scholarship including living expenses for me. Somewhere along the way, I forgot that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is, and passed up a full scholarship at 东南大学 through the CSC in favor of the school I was familiar with. I started getting worried once I had moved my stuff into the dorms and the professor told me to first pay the rent, as the school was waiting on my scholarship money and would have to pay me back later. A month later he told me the same story about the tuition fee, which I proceeded to hand over like a moron. Obviously I haven't seen a cent of the scholarship money or living stipend yet. What's worse, the "personalized language courses" promised were never set up either. Instead my professor had me sit in with the Chinese undergraduate freshmen class for the whole semester during their 现代汉语,古代文学,普通话 etc. courses. (This was actually quite interesting from a sociological perspective, but not very beneficial to my Chinese skills and especially not what I was expecting when I handed over my tuition money.) Obviously, I've decided to apply to a different school for the coming semester. I told the school I'm not sitting in on classes this semester and am just going to self-study, but I don't want to tell them of my plans to switch schools as I am worried about them cancelling my visa. My question is, since I am still registered as a student at my current school, will this impact my ability to apply to a new school? Should I tell the schools I apply to that I am currently enrolled in a "graduate program" at another school? I'd love to hear any thoughts you guys have. Thanks! Quote
