Indoor climbing in Beijing + gear.

Hello forum,

I've just recently moved to Beijing and I'm eager to find an indoors climbing hall that I can go to regularly. I've read about some place called O'le climbing (I think) but I'm sure there are many more places in this town. Does anyone know any good place?

I also need climbing gear and I since my life will come to depend on it I would much appreciate some help in finding the right gear; I'm not very good at shopping for quality. If anyone happens to know about which gear you can depend on and how much it costs it would be awesome to know.

When I eventually get things straight it would be very nice with a climbing partner in Beijing. I started climbing a few months ago and my skill level is - well it's a little hard to explain, but in Sweden we grade the difficulty of the walls with 5a, 5b, 5c, 6a, b, c and 7a, b, c - I'm climbing 6b and 6c at best.

Very grateful for valuable information!

So my brother is really into climbing and lived in Beijing with my parents as a teenager (from like 2002-2006). He and I had been to Boulder Bar but I see from 大肚男's link that it may have been closed.

I asked him about this and here is his response:

There's a climbing wall and bouldering wall at Ritan Park. Here's a photo I took of them: http://i.imgur.com/MqYiR.jpg There's also a miniature golf course in the park that's pretty fun.

There's a newer, larger climbing wall in another park somewhere in southern Beijing. I don't remember the name of the park but here's the wall, and at the time is was a lead climbing only wall: http://i.imgur.com/bCiPB.jpg

As for outdoor climbing, this is the best resource that I know of: http://mountainproject.com/v/beijing-area/106287843 . Bai He was the best area I went to.

And as for climbing stores, there were a bunch of them. Sanfo is the chain that I remember: http://www.sanfo.com/index-english.asp

Apologies if any of this is outdated, but hopefully this gives you something to go on.

Hi there, i'm fairly new in Beijing too, i've climbed a few times and want to start taking it a little seriously, climbing indoors once a week and outdoors on the weekend at sometimes. I found a decent looking wall called Ole and also there is an outdoor club (http://beijingclimbingclub.com/). They also have gear info on their site - check it out.

You are much higher level than me, but perhaps we could partner up and as we get to know other climbers, we may find partners who are more of our own suitable level, unless i practice hard and catch up quickly! :D

I'm looking for a climbing partner as well... Well, always looking I suppose, the way partners can come and go.

I live in Beijing, and have a car which helps in getting to the mountains when it's warm.

Send me an email at woshirenda@gmail.com if you are looking for the same.

I've got plenty of gear, I would just ask that you know how to lead belay.
