gracena Posted March 20, 2012 at 01:20 AM Report Posted March 20, 2012 at 01:20 AM Has anyone applied directly to Tsinghua or Peking and received academic credits back in their home university (not going through school)? Thanks! Quote
edelweis Posted March 20, 2012 at 07:21 AM Report Posted March 20, 2012 at 07:21 AM Even if you apply on your own, you will have to go through your own university to get Chinese courses credits translated into your home country's system. It's highly unlikely that this credit transfer will be automatic, and it's highly likely that conditions and amount of credit will vary according to your home university. I suggest you get in touch with your home uni's academic department right now rather than after coming back from China... 2 Quote
icebear Posted March 20, 2012 at 07:28 AM Report Posted March 20, 2012 at 07:28 AM Agreed - as stated in your other thread, if transferring credits back home is important you should talk with your registrar before starting any applications - some universities are very lenient, others very strict/a pain in the ass when it comes to credit transfers. 2 Quote
yialanliu Posted March 20, 2012 at 08:38 AM Report Posted March 20, 2012 at 08:38 AM I studied at PKU and PKU has a great exchange program for its Business School. Also, all of us from all the universities had our credits transfer. We all applied through our local university so I know it doesn't fit you directly. I ended up transferring 6 classes (15 credits worth). The reason I wanted to post though is that I would like to note that timing is annoying for getting grades posted. I finished in December but the grades won't be given to my school until April even though I could goto PKU and get my grades. They just take forever to send them. What this means is that if you plan on going abroad in your senior year, it may affect your graduation significantly. For instance, even going abroad in the Fall does not guarantee that you'll be "done" by the spring since your school may still be waiting for grades. Some schools say they don't get it until July. 2 Quote
歐博思 Posted March 20, 2012 at 09:15 PM Report Posted March 20, 2012 at 09:15 PM I was in heavy contact with my study abroad office before I went to Qinghua back in Spring 2011. Since Qinghua wasn't offered as an exchange program with my school I just applied directly, but until not after jumping through much red tape. Even though Qinghua wasn't a program through my school, I had to meet my school's study abroad requirements (buying evacuation insurance, etc) before they would agree to transfer credits back. These things most likely need to be handled before you go abroad if you want to insure you receive your credits. 1 Quote
