Tulee Posted March 22, 2012 at 04:09 AM Report Share Posted March 22, 2012 at 04:09 AM Hi guys, I was hoping someone could explain the 2nd part of this phrase. Basically the two parts that I do not understand. 1. The use of 怕 (i have heard this used a lot in colloquial language and i do not think it means scared, possibly used as a word for "worried"?) 2. What 受。。。的气 means. Like does it mean be wronged? Thanks for your help, the context is not really important, it is mainly just the usage. Take a look at 受氣 -> http://www.mdbg.net/...%8F%97%E6%B0%A3 As to 怕, it can mean genuinely frightened/worried. If the step-daughter is really young, the step-mother could maltreat her quite badly if she chose to.
David Wong Posted March 22, 2012 at 08:35 PM Report Share Posted March 22, 2012 at 08:35 PM 怕 has several "standard" definitions, and I think the one that might be most applicable here is "dread".
