Tulee Posted March 25, 2012 at 07:33 AM Report Posted March 25, 2012 at 07:33 AM Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this sentence. The main problem I am having is with the use of 让。 Because following 让 is the object of rang (我)but then instead of a verb right after the object, a time phrase is used (长大以后). So what exactly does this sentence mean. (This was used in a colloquial setting). Many Thanks Quote
skylee Posted March 25, 2012 at 07:57 AM Report Posted March 25, 2012 at 07:57 AM Seems to me that this is similar to English in that sometimes you can express an idea using either a "to ..." structure or a "that ..." structure. He told me that, when I've grown up, I should use this feather to exchange for a diamond ring. He told me to use this feather to exchange for a diamond ring when I've grown up. Quote
David Wong Posted March 25, 2012 at 11:27 AM Report Posted March 25, 2012 at 11:27 AM The verb that complements 让 is 用xx换xx. As skylee said, 让我 here has the meaning of "tells me to". Quote
