xuechengfeng Posted January 24, 2005 at 01:36 AM Report Posted January 24, 2005 at 01:36 AM How do you say "President?" As in the President of the United STates? I used the word zong3tong3 but my teacher said that isn't right. I can't find anything else though in my dictionary or on Zhongwen. Quote
bhchao Posted January 24, 2005 at 03:06 AM Report Posted January 24, 2005 at 03:06 AM 總統 should be right, as you spelled out. Bush would be 布什總統. Quote
skylee Posted January 24, 2005 at 04:56 AM Report Posted January 24, 2005 at 04:56 AM 總統 is correct. But note the change of tone of the first character. The US president is 美國總統. Quote

Quest Posted January 27, 2005 at 09:45 PM Report Posted January 27, 2005 at 09:45 PM 主席 is the chairman... Quote
Jose Posted January 27, 2005 at 09:53 PM Report Posted January 27, 2005 at 09:53 PM 主席 is the chairman... Not in this case. ced1zh is right. The official name in China for Hu Jintao's position is 中華人民共和國主席 in Chinese, and "President of the People's Republic of China" in English.
