This is a photo caption from an unpleasant image of people killed by war or natural disaster (probably the Chinese-Japanese conflicts in the 1930's). Don't worry - only posted the caption not the whole photograph!

Sad reading about tragedies on the Sumida River.

水死体 means that the cause of the death is drowning, I think.

actually it's kind of Japanese. not common Chinese. I mean it may be a named corpse, but it also can mean a location with water surrounding.
