gato Posted April 25, 2012 at 05:15 AM Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 05:15 AM Watch out for crumbling sidewalks. Those who can't access Youtube will have to satisfied with a short clip on MSNBC. The videos on Youku only show the rescue and omit the surveillance video of her falling into the hole. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2012/04/24/19670516.html Girl swallowed by sidewalk http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/47155170#47155170 Video A teenage girl fell through a sidewalk in Xi'an, the capital of the China's northwest Shaanxi Province, after she failed to notice warning signs. A teenage girl walking on a sidewalk in Xi'an, the capital of the China's northwest Shaanxi Province, fell six metres into a sinkhole. jbradfor Posted April 25, 2012 at 06:31 PM Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 06:31 PM Giving Kunming a run for its money! [EDIT: I mean Liuzhou.] after she failed to notice warning signs. What warning signs? I missed it too in the video. When watching the masses of people crowding around the hole, I was waiting for the hole to get bigger and drop the whole lot down. Quote
gato Posted April 25, 2012 at 06:46 PM Author Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 06:46 PM There were two posts near that area with the weak cement, but it's not clear what they were for. Quote
jbradfor Posted April 25, 2012 at 07:15 PM Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 07:15 PM The posts are clearly there to stop people from driving on the sidewalk; the main part in front is a driveway, and you can see an identical set of posts on the other side of the driveway. I guess there could have been signs posted on the posts, but I too would likely have missed them, mobile in hand or not. Quote
gato Posted April 25, 2012 at 07:31 PM Author Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 07:31 PM Yeah, you are right. The posts are at fender level, just enough to block cars. I don't see any other warning signs. She seem to hold up ok after falling 6 meters. That's about twice the height of a basketball rim. The driver did say that she was initially unconscious. Good to see that someone helped out right away. Quote
jbradfor Posted April 25, 2012 at 07:40 PM Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 07:40 PM Yeah, I meant to comment on that as well. It's good to see someone rushing so quickly to help. So far down and unconscious, if none of the people that actually saw her fall down went to help, she could have been there a while. Quote
Meng Lelan Posted April 25, 2012 at 08:10 PM Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 08:10 PM After the tot Yueyue was run over and ignored by so many last year, maybe this year will be different in that bystanders are not so indifferent. Quote
icebear Posted April 25, 2012 at 08:56 PM Report Posted April 25, 2012 at 08:56 PM The story of the girl falling into a pit of boiling water in Beijing is terrifying. Quote
jkhsu Posted April 26, 2012 at 12:19 AM Report Posted April 26, 2012 at 12:19 AM That woman in Beijing is dead. Here's the update that includes a similar incident in Dalian where another woman fell into a thermal well and died. http://usa.chinadail...nt_15119259.htm Quote
