New Members LaCielle Posted April 28, 2012 at 04:48 PM New Members Report Posted April 28, 2012 at 04:48 PM Whats the difference between HSK exam and YCT (Youth Chinese Test), besides the fact that one is aimed more at younger students? Also, what would be a "good" score to achieve on either tests? Quote
edelweis Posted April 29, 2012 at 11:43 AM Report Posted April 29, 2012 at 11:43 AM according to chinesetesting.cn, the (new) HSK has 6 different levels (in practice that's 6 different exams) HSK6 Over 5,000 words HSK5 2500 words HSK4 1200 words HSK3 600 words HSK2 300 words HSK1 150 words and the YCT has 4 levels: YCT4 600 words (~HSK3) YCT3 300 words YCT2 150 words YCT1 80 words. As to a "good" score, the minimum required for foreigners who wish to study in Chinese universities is HSK4. For a master's degree it is HSK5. There is also an "old" version of the HSK, with 3 exam levels, one of which is really advanced and appropriate for (I think) professional translators, but it does not seem to be offered outside mainland China any more.
