计划 and 打算

Can 计划 and 打算 be used interchangeably?

e.g.

我正计划着周末怎么过。

我正打算着周末怎么过。

I think it's about time I get a Chinese to Chinese dictionary or thesaurus. Can someone recommend a suitable one? I have passed HSK3 and now studying the HSK 4 words. Would 现代汉语规范词典 be too advanced for me?

Thanks!

They mean pretty much the same, given that one defines the other and vice versa in the 现代汉语规范词典. IMHO 打算 is a bit subjective and is concerned with a single person's individual plans, slightly 随便 if you like, while 计划 is used in more formal context, where plans are taken more seriously. What one plans for life is 计划 rather than 打算, and whether one goes jogging or not the following day is 打算. I'm not a native speaker, though, and I could be wrong.

I'm not a native speaker either...

打算 signifies intention, it can be something very simple (I plan to buy that hat tomorrow)

计划 implies a plan, usually more specific and complex (our plan calls for this, then that, then something else)

They are interchangeable in some contexts, but not all. Like DonHorhe says, 计划 is usually more concrete

why are you guys so fascinated by the exact meaning of two words? we native speaker do not care much about that ,when you say you have an intention to do something ,the word 打算 will get your mind across

It's quite simple, really. As a native speaker, you intuitively know the difference between these two words, and so do all the native speakers around you. Talking about this sort of stuff amongst yourselves has no real function since you already grasp the idea.

However, for learners of Chinese(or any language) who do not have the advantage of intuitive native speaker knowledge, asking these sorts of questions are how you gain a more sophisticated command of the language.
