SinoPhil Posted May 20, 2012 at 09:18 PM Report Posted May 20, 2012 at 09:18 PM No, it does not differ, it works exactly like that. Under Shared Decks you can then search for HSK or new HSK. It's really great that people make the effort to create these decks and share them, so thanks a lot to everybody who did. It has to be said, though, that all decks I have tried to work with or work with now have some minor or major faults. The decks with the new HSK levels 1-6 (or 1-4) all seem to be much too comprehensive on the English side for my taste. They tend to list all possible English meanings of Chinese vocabulary, even the most unusual ones, and they quite often do not list the most important meanings first. This is rather counterproductive as far as efficient learning is concerned. Then there is a deck I would dearly love without its faults. It's called 20000 Mandarin HSK Sentences (v2). It's based on the old HSK levels I think. The idea is that you learn new vocabulary better in the context of sentences instead of isolated words. I think that's true and it's much more fun, too. My main problem with this deck is that when characters have two prononciations (=two different spellings in pinyin), it quite often gives the more unusual one although the usual one would be correct. For example it often gives ji3 instead of gei3 for 给 in contexts where it certainly should be (the much more usual) gei3. Also kuai4 for 会 when I am sure hui4 is correct. Now that's just a minor annoyance in those cases where I realize there is a mistake and am also quite sure what should be the correct solution. But I am still very much a beginner, often I am not sure and have to ask people and probably even more (much more) often there are faults I don't recognize as faults at all and so, inevitably, memorize. Not good. But anyway, have fun with Anki, it's still a great way to learn I think, especially when you also use it on your mobile phone. Quote
