“bei er yi"?

I heard someone say this, does anyone know what it means? (I know I should have asked, but it would have been bad timing)...

Characters could be:

被something something

I can't write the Chinese context because I was struggling to keep up anyway, but in English the context was a discussion about someone who isn't doing very well recently, might have been 'bei4 er2 yi', and I don't know the tone of 'yi' at all, I'm sorry. From everyone's reaction, 'bei4 er2 yi' is something bad.

It's not urgent at all, I'm just wondering so if it's too little information then never mind.
