purple_hoodie Posted May 30, 2012 at 04:03 PM Report Posted May 30, 2012 at 04:03 PM Hi all, does anyone have a good suggestion for a Pinyin input method for Mac with Traditional Characters? I'm using OS X 10.6.8. Thanks! Michael Quote
feng Posted May 31, 2012 at 01:05 AM Report Posted May 31, 2012 at 01:05 AM Can you elaborate on what you dont like about the normal built in mac (traditional) pinyin input method ? it might help us understand your question a little better. ie Whats wrong with: "System Preferences -> Language & Text -> Input Sources -> Chinese traditional -> Pinyin - Traditional" Quote
yaokong Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:43 AM Report Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:43 AM QIM, both for simplified and traditional. Because its waaay better than the built-in one. Quote
Taibei Posted May 31, 2012 at 08:36 AM Report Posted May 31, 2012 at 08:36 AM If you don't like the built-in system (which has reportedly improved considerably over earlier versions), then go with QIM, which is now freeware. http://www.macqim.com/wordpress http://pinyin.info/news/2011/qim-becomes-freeware/ Quote
tooironic Posted May 31, 2012 at 10:14 AM Report Posted May 31, 2012 at 10:14 AM I use 智能拼音. While not as predictive as Sogou pinyin, you can increase the the font to as large a font as you want. This is important to me as I hate squinting trying to read Chinese characters. Quote
purple_hoodie Posted June 1, 2012 at 03:10 AM Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 at 03:10 AM Yeah the system standard input method is terrible, but QIM is great! Thanks all. Quote
Yang Chuanzhang Posted June 11, 2012 at 10:44 PM Report Posted June 11, 2012 at 10:44 PM I use QIM for traditional and 搜狗拼音 for simplified. I also find 搜狗拼音 to be better in its predictions than all other input systems I've tried. Unfortunately, there is no traditional version right now, but last time I checked, they said they were working on a traditional version so it might be worth following or at least checking from time to time.
