rmontelatici Posted January 31, 2005 at 01:16 PM Report Posted January 31, 2005 at 01:16 PM Hi all, A friend of mine is planning a trip to mongolia (republic of) next summer and wants to learn some of the language before going there. He has a hard time finding decent textbooks or online courses. Could you recommend some ? He is so desperate to find anything that could fit his goals that materials in any language will do (english-based courses would be great though). Thanks, Raphael Quote

rmontelatici Posted January 31, 2005 at 02:16 PM Author Report Posted January 31, 2005 at 02:16 PM Thanks Skylee, The LP phrasebook is a good start but he is looking for more comprehensive courses (with dialogues, grammar notes and the like). Audio ressources would also help a lot ! Quote
rmontelatici Posted February 1, 2005 at 01:33 PM Author Report Posted February 1, 2005 at 01:33 PM I found this survival kit http://www.qingis.com/monggolhel.htm, far from comprehensive, yet it includes audio recordings. The pieces of dialogues are written using the mongolian alphabet (the one of inner mongolia I think), not cyrillic, and there are chinese translations. BTW, I need help on some of these chinese sentences: (sentence 3) what does 没关系 means ? (a familiar one, but I can't figure out what is exactly means!) (sentence 90) 你妈妈对我的印象好吗? This one is pure mystery to me. Thanks, Raphael Quote
yan Posted February 1, 2005 at 11:00 PM Report Posted February 1, 2005 at 11:00 PM sentence 3 is 'thanks'(bayarlalaa and talarhlaa)/'no problem'(hamaagui), sentence 90 is 'what impression did i make on your mother?', although the word order seems a bit strange to my Outer Mongolian girlfriend. http://tbg.torama.ru uses cyrillic letters, and the dialogues are in khalkha dialect.
