excler Posted June 18, 2012 at 07:05 AM Report Posted June 18, 2012 at 07:05 AM I don't like when there is background music, because it's difficult to make sentences cards in Anki 2 Quote
Yang Chuanzhang Posted June 19, 2012 at 02:52 AM Author Report Posted June 19, 2012 at 02:52 AM a-xing: Thanks for the feedback! We will try to pay attention to that the next time we record an episode. I redesigned the website yesterday because I really feel we need to explain better to first time visitors what the site is about. We also just finished our fifth episode: http://www.yemaohao.com/episodes/005-social-networks-in-china-2 Quote
semantic nuance Posted June 20, 2012 at 12:03 AM Report Posted June 20, 2012 at 12:03 AM Deleted: I guess I misunderstood a-xing. He might want Chinese transcript of 德國之聲. The one I posted earlier is about learning German at 德國之聲 website. Sorry for the mistake. Quote
Yang Chuanzhang Posted October 21, 2012 at 09:19 AM Author Report Posted October 21, 2012 at 09:19 AM Hi, it's taken us a long time, but we're back with three new episodes so far. We are very satisfied with them and would love to hear your opinions. If you didn't follow Yemaohao before we disappeared, it's an audio podcast of native speakers having natural, unscripted conversations. http://www.yemaohao.com Yang 2 Quote
tooironic Posted October 21, 2012 at 10:13 AM Report Posted October 21, 2012 at 10:13 AM Great to see it being updated again! I just tweeted about it. Chinese learners should do their best to promote and support these kind of rare and authentic resources. Jiayou! Quote
Popular Post imron Posted October 21, 2012 at 10:21 AM Popular Post Report Posted October 21, 2012 at 10:21 AM Good job. Just a small suggestion though, if you make a handful of episodes you're probably better off spacing the release of them by a constant amount, even if it means sitting around with finished but unreleased episodes. You'll find it much easier to build up an audience if you have a regular release cycle, for example one new episode every Friday, rather than a few episodes in quick succession followed by a longer wait for the next episodes and so on. Having a few episodes up your sleeve will also provide you with some slack to make it possible to do a regular release even if you don't get around to producing any new episodes for a couple of weeks. For example, if you'd produced those episodes exactly as you had, but then chose a weekly release cycle, you would have had until Oct 27 before needing to think about preparing for the next ones and Nov 3 before people would start being concerned about a lack of updates. As it is currently, you're setting an expectation among listeners for new episodes every 3-4 days and if you miss that people are going to start wondering if perhaps you've disappeared again. Not sure what your plans are going forward, but if you're aiming for regular or semi-regular episodes it's probably something to consider because stopping and starting and stopping and starting is a great way to kill traffic and buzz. 6 Quote
Yang Chuanzhang Posted October 23, 2012 at 01:14 PM Author Report Posted October 23, 2012 at 01:14 PM tooironic: Thank you for your comment! imron: You're absolutely right. It's just so hard to not release an episode once it's done, haha. We've now decided to publish a new episode every saturday. 2 Quote
stoney Posted November 27, 2012 at 10:58 PM Report Posted November 27, 2012 at 10:58 PM I listened to lesson 12 today. I like the content, but the background music is very distracting. Actually I don't mind some background music, since there are always some background distractions in real life, but in this lesson the music/drumming is louder than the speaker. Perhaps you could bump up the level of the speaker a little. Thanks Quote
Yang Chuanzhang Posted December 1, 2012 at 07:02 PM Author Report Posted December 1, 2012 at 07:02 PM Hi, we just published an episode without background music. As always, you can listen to it on our site or on iTunes: http://www.yemaohao.com/episodes/014-dinner-conversation Quote

Yang Chuanzhang Posted February 17, 2013 at 12:34 AM Author Report Posted February 17, 2013 at 12:34 AM Hi everyone, We're back with something new! We took up an idea that roddy proposed when we first asked for feedback in this thread. He suggested to make two versions of each episode, one with the unedited conversation in Chinese and one where we split up the original file and explain what's going on in English. Back then we decided against doing this but we've now decided to give it a try. Maybe I'll write a blogpost on yemaohao with a few more details but it's probably best if you just try it out yourself: http://www.yemaohao.com/episodes/016-two-friends-from-beijing-2 As always, we'd love to hear everyone's opinion. And special thanks to roddy for the idea Yang Quote

Pickley Posted February 24, 2013 at 08:38 PM Report Posted February 24, 2013 at 08:38 PM This is really good for my current level, I like the natural flow to the conversation. I have a question for OP, how many hits do you get on your site per day? Quote
Yang Chuanzhang Posted February 26, 2013 at 01:06 AM Author Report Posted February 26, 2013 at 01:06 AM 8-10, why do you ask? Quote
Pickley Posted February 26, 2013 at 03:16 PM Report Posted February 26, 2013 at 03:16 PM 8-10 hits? I was just wondering how 受欢迎 it is. For the next episode can you please take the music out after the intro? It's really distracting. Other than that, I like it. I was thinking about making a podcast myself with some Chinese friends.
