Tulee Posted June 12, 2012 at 12:52 PM Report Posted June 12, 2012 at 12:52 PM Hi guys, I was hoping someone could help me decipher what 笑得多灿烂 means. I have only ever seen 灿烂 used to describe China's history. Many thanks Quote
skylee Posted June 12, 2012 at 12:55 PM Report Posted June 12, 2012 at 12:55 PM 灿烂 can be used to describe the brightness of sunlight and starlight. The sentence means how bright/lovely the smile is. Quote
HusbandOfWuhan Posted June 12, 2012 at 01:04 PM Report Posted June 12, 2012 at 01:04 PM 灿烂 is literally a description of nature, however it can be used to describe almost anything. Here it is being used metaphorically of course. It is a positive adjective. Whenever you see it, think that it means something positive, good, nice, bright, happy etc. And don't forget, many Chinese words are used metaphorically, symbolically or as metonymies. Have fun with Chinese! Quote
