bieniu Posted June 17, 2012 at 04:03 PM Report Share Posted June 17, 2012 at 04:03 PM Hello I have decided to take some private chinese lessons via skype. Since I am going to Taipei in September, I want my tutor to be from Taiwan to get used to this specific accent. Could you please help me find a tutor meeting my needs? I am a beginner (learning since October but only 2 hours a week in classes), I am from Poland but ofc english tutor will work as well and I don't want it to be too expensive. What I have found is for example http://www.italki.com/teachers/1-3-Chinese--TW-0-999999-0-0-1.htm - is this recommended? $10 per hour seems very good for me, $20 is acceptable but would prefer cheaper
edelweis Posted June 17, 2012 at 04:17 PM Report Share Posted June 17, 2012 at 04:17 PM There are some taiwanese teachers on chineseteachers.com. You can browse the teachers and select which one you want to book a lesson with (according to price, origin, current geographic location, the textbooks they have or whatever is indicated in their profile.) Prices range from 10$ to 24$ per hour. They do not use skype, they have their own method for voice + text chat inside the web browser. You can also search for chineseteachers.com or italki on this forum, some people have used them before. (use the search box at the top of the page on the right side) See also this thread: http://www.chinese-f...re-free-trials/
bieniu Posted June 17, 2012 at 04:32 PM Author Report Share Posted June 17, 2012 at 04:32 PM Thank you. Of course Skype was just an example, I don't mind using other voip services. Chineseteachers looks perfect, I love the categories of teachers and acceptable pricing. And of course if anyone can suggest other services, I will appreciate it too - maybe I'll be able to take some trial lessons to compare different teachers/services
giraffe Posted June 18, 2012 at 10:10 AM Report Share Posted June 18, 2012 at 10:10 AM If it were me, I wouldn't be so concerned about the Taiwan accent. It's much more important to find a good teacher and there are far more teachers on iTalki from the mainland (and many more of those with good ratings and multiple students). peggy-liz Posted July 1, 2012 at 04:48 PM Report Share Posted July 1, 2012 at 04:48 PM Hi, you can try www.liz-mandarin.com, They give Chinese classes via skype, and get high rating among students. You can make a customized class, since you are going to Taipei in Sept. Besides, I agree with giraffe, Taiwan accent is not important... igotyofire Posted July 4, 2012 at 05:48 PM Report Share Posted July 4, 2012 at 05:48 PM We have a taiwanese mandarin teacher in our QQ group. He probably would be happy to help & probably would only ask for english help. We use "QQ talk" Program similiar to "YY chat" to voice chat with free talk & scheduled lesson times & can even find someone to 1 on 1 with if you want. Group consist mostly of chinese native speakers trying to learn english so probably easy to find someone to partner up with. I'm very relaxed so just go their to practice speaking. Can PM me if you want / need the info
