How to translate 太极 into english

If you are talking about the martial art, then it is commonly translated (or rather transliterated) as Taichi. Most people will know this word, but they will have a strong misunderstanding about what Taichi actually is.

No. If you want to break it down so simply, then this is Taichi:

The difference between this and what you wrote is that Taichi is more than just two opposite extremes. When each extreme is at it strongest, it also has within it the seed of the opposite extreme, which as it grows, overpowers the opposite force until it has reached its own extreme, which again contains the seed of the opposite extreme, and so the cycle continues.

But I think it's difficult to capture Taichi in just a single sentence. Or even a month of learning.
