Help with Tattoo translation (my girlfriends challenge)

Hi everybody,

first of all I want to apologise for my bad english, it's not my native language. I have now since some month a girlfriend and she has a asia-tattoo on her back. I asked her several times what it means but she didn't say anything. Last time I asked her she just said "Find it out." and so now my challengesense is woken up.

I know the pictue is not so good but maybe some knows what it means:

Turn the picture clockwise by 90 degrees it suggests 夜 (night), but as what usually happens to such tattoos, a stroke is missing. And the "person" radical at the lower left looks a bit odd.
