Unsure about a tricky translation of a simple sentence

Hey everybody and thanks for your help!

So, this guy was asked if he liked a certain kind of music and the answer was:

可能没有你们年轻人那么喜欢

I would think the translation might be something like this: "maybe I dont/ did not (like) that (music) which you young people like that much."

So if I am correct the sentence may be put like this with stuff previously left out before in brackets ( ) :

可能没有(喜欢)你们年轻人那么喜欢(的音乐)

Also, do you think the 没有 definitely indicates past tense or could this have a general meaning as well?

Let me know if you think I am way off or not

Thanks again

I better translation would be: I probably don't like it as much as you young people do.

Here the 没有 doesn't refer to past tense but is rather used for comparison and basically means "not as much as". e.g.

你没有他快 - you are not as fast as him

我没有你聪明 - I'm not as smart as you

and so on.

I don't think the extra words you provided in brackets are correct here.

Ah, yes, of course. Now when I read your translation it makes perfect sense.

Thanks so much!

A没有B(quality)

A isn't as (quality) as B

For example:

老鼠没有猫大 Mice aren't as big as cats

苹果没有菠萝甜 Apples aren't as sweet as pineapples

If you want to emphasise that B has a high level of the quality in question, you can add 那么 before the quality. For example:

加拿大没有俄罗斯那么大 Canada isn't as large as Russia (the implication being that Russia is very large)

If the quality is a verb, then A and B are often subjects of the verb:

我没有你那么喜欢 I don't like (it) as much as you

So your sentence 可能没有你们年轻人那么喜欢 means "maybe (I) don't like (it) as much as you young people"

How many words do you have for snow?
