New Members chrislee Posted June 22, 2012 at 10:32 PM New Members Report Posted June 22, 2012 at 10:32 PM Hey all, this is my first post so go easy. I'm 20 and my girlfriend is 22 in a week, she's was born and lives in China but has been here in my home country (England) since September for a year long uni course. Anyway I plan to go back to China with her when her visa expires in August. Her mum is adamant that she can get me a job teaching english however I have heard so many countless mixed opinions about whether this is possible/legal without a degree (I don't have one to be clear). My main worry is what I am actually going to do, I assume I will head there on a tourist visa (on a side note I have had one before as I visited for 3 weeks in April) and then sort something out in terms of work. If for example her mother has got a job lined up for me and they want to hire me am I at any kind of risk of breaking the law by taking the job without a degree? In addition I have read that there is no such thing as a marriage visa in china and therefore being married does not give you the right to live there permanently or work there at all. Therefore what ways if any are there for me to legally work in China while living with my girlfriend? And finally, if for example we are to get married in China, and then come back to the UK will she be able to work here in the UK or will that be a' whole 'nother set of problems? PLEASE HELP GUYS xie xie Quote
jbradfor Posted June 25, 2012 at 09:16 PM Report Posted June 25, 2012 at 09:16 PM There's been no reply yet, I assume, because this has been discussed in many other posts; try using the search box in the upper right, and come back with more questions once you're read those. That said, some quick answers. Her mum is adamant that she can get me a job teaching english however I have heard so many countless mixed opinions about whether this is possible/legal without a degree (I don't have one to be clear). Possible, yes. Legal, probably not. [You can't teach on an L-visa, and without a degree you're unlikely to get the needed X or F visa to work legally.] Will you get caught? Probably not, unless you do something stupid, although there has been a crack down on illegal workers recently. Therefore what ways if any are there for me to legally work in China while living with my girlfriend? You need to get a company that is authorized to hire foreigners give you a job and go through the proper paperwork. A Chinese wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend does not affect this. Quote
