Strange use of 上去

Speaking to somebody and he said “我是湖南人，就在廣東省上去一點”。

The use of 上去 with 一點 threw me off a bit.

Is 上去 idiomatic here meaning he goes to Guangdong once in a while?

In this case, "上去" means "north". He's basically saying, "I'm from Hunan, it's (Hunan) just a bit north of Guangdong province."

Here means Hunan is a little bit northof Guangdong, Usually use to show the directions on paper. here indicates on map.
