niceguy Posted July 12, 2012 at 07:41 AM Report Posted July 12, 2012 at 07:41 AM hi friends! this is my first post. i am an international student who wants to earn a 4 years bachelor of engineering degree ( taught in english ) in china. my first preference is for electronic and telecom. can anyone please tell me the names of "most international" ( large number of international students ) universities in china where the 4 year engineering courses have built-in ( compulsory ) internship / industrial training or project in their syllabus and the foreign students are legally allowed to pursue it ( similar to cpt in usa ). this internship / industrial project and "teaching in english" are the only two selection criteria for me as i want to gather practical experience. my objectives are very clear : study theory ---> paid / unpaid practical exposure ---> return to home. i already checked cucas and other sites including c9 university sites. unfortunately, the english versions are very limited in nature and there is no information regarding internship for international students. please help. thanks in advance. skylee Posted July 13, 2012 at 02:35 PM Report Posted July 13, 2012 at 02:35 PM Is Hong Kong included in your version of China? If it is you might like to check out the universities in HK. I am not sure if there is internship in the programmes but they are taught in English (unless it is CUHK, where things are usually bilingual). liuzhou Posted July 13, 2012 at 04:19 PM Report Posted July 13, 2012 at 04:19 PM I think you need to do some basic research into the Chinese education system. I am not aware of any mainland China universities which teach in English. Why should they? Some universities in Hong Kong, may be different, as skylee has said. Quote
edelweis Posted July 13, 2012 at 04:52 PM Report Posted July 13, 2012 at 04:52 PM Actually there seems to be at least one university on the mainland which teaches a master program in English (see that thread) but, of course, at a much higher cost than the equivalent Chinese-taught courses. However I do not recall reading about any undergraduate degree taught in English... Edit: oh, actually CUCAS lists some for instance Electronic Information Engineering (in English) Edit: actually the detailed program says the electives are taught in Chinese heh. But the program also includes mandatory Chinese classes before that. Quote
liuzhou Posted July 13, 2012 at 05:11 PM Report Posted July 13, 2012 at 05:11 PM I'd be interested to hear reports about the quality of those. I would worry a bit about the CUCAS link you give. At one stage it says it is a bachelor's program, then later it is a master's program. Qualification Awarded: Bachelor's Degree Diploma Awarded: Master of Engineering The rest is of the entry is Chinglish They seem a little confused. Normally Chinese universities don't even teach English in English, never mind engineering. Quote
niceguy Posted July 13, 2012 at 05:42 PM Author Report Posted July 13, 2012 at 05:42 PM hi all! i've shortlisted the following universities which teach in english and have large international student body. shandong university of science and technology huazong university of science and technology beihang university however, i didn't find any internship / practical training info from their english version sites. an international student commented that internships are available for foreign students in sust but the commenter is untracable. now, can anyone please personally confirm this internship thing for these three unis? can you please rate them also ( which one first...second...third )? and what about sias - is it locally reputed and does it have internship for foreign students?? thanks again. Silent Posted July 13, 2012 at 05:51 PM Report Posted July 13, 2012 at 05:51 PM I think you need to do some basic research into the Chinese education system. I am not aware of any mainland China universities which teach in English. I think there are several universities with (some) programs in english. I know at least Harbin institute of Technology (hit) does. I've however no idea about the quality of these programs. But apart from quality, to me it's not clear why OP wants this specific combination. China wouldn't be the first to spring to mind if I wanted a quality education in English. Maybe OP is just looking for a way to stay longer term in China and is the quality of the program a lesser concern. If I read his post it seems most important that it's in China and no/little Chinese is needed (lost of foreign students) subject of study seems of lesser importance too as long as it's in engineering. Quality or prestige is not even mentioned in the original post. Quote
WestTexas Posted July 13, 2012 at 06:39 PM Report Posted July 13, 2012 at 06:39 PM There was a university in Shenyang close to where I worked that had an engineering program in English. Shenyang Aeronautical Engineering College or sth like that. Quote
