Despite the warnings, I want to get a chinese character tattoo

I am not yet married to the idea and want to get as much input as possible before submitting to the ink. The red character in the picture is what I would like translated. Here is the back story: Both my older brother and my younger sister have a genetic disorder called Fragile X Syndrome. It is caused by a gene mutation on the X chromosome, and one of the end portions of the chromosome actually looks like it is about to fall off (thus the "Fragile X"). Growing up as the middle child between them was very difficult. I keenly felt the separation from "normal" activities their disorder forced on my family: hated having friends over, really hated when my parents brought them with to pick me up from school, really really hated when others would stare. But I am now so thankful for them because the patience, compassion, and selflessness I saw in my parents while caring for them as I was growning up has helped me become the person I am today. I want to honor them and embrace the very thing I hated for so long. We may not have been a normal family, but we were a family.

I tried looking up translations of the word "Fragile" but it didn't look anything like this character. Any ideas would be appreciated!

That character, , has a meaning of "heal" or "recover". "Fragile", I suppose, could be 脆弱, but there may be a better way of putting it in this case.

The Chinese term for that is X染色體易裂症, literally "X chromosome easy-split disease."

And if you think 症 looks funny then your spidey senses are working. Its original form is 證.

@glenn - omg that is actually even better!! this is the logo of a research institute dedicated to finding the cure for the disease. @Hofmann, thanks! I think I might get that too down my back or something.

Great, but I really don't get why you would want to do that in a language neither you or they understand.

There was a thread about that. Still not sure why it sets off my alarm. Maybe I expect 爿正 or something.
