wenjing*girl Posted February 6, 2005 at 11:26 AM Report Posted February 6, 2005 at 11:26 AM Here is something that Americans (at least) say all the time: I didn't even realize until recently that when I say "that's ok" it is taken the wrong way. Example: Student: Would you like some chou dou fu?" Me: "That's ok" (thinking "heck no, that stuff is nasty" ) Here, "that's ok" means "no thanks" Quote
Claw Posted February 6, 2005 at 01:14 PM Report Posted February 6, 2005 at 01:14 PM There's also "come on," which in some contexts can mean "stop it." Quote
wame Posted February 6, 2005 at 02:02 PM Report Posted February 6, 2005 at 02:02 PM wonder: when&where "that`s ok"means "fine,i like it "? Quote
randyj Posted February 6, 2005 at 02:40 PM Report Posted February 6, 2005 at 02:40 PM Stress "ok" in the sentence and it means "fine, I like it". Stress "that's" and it means "no thanks". Quote
wenjing*girl Posted February 7, 2005 at 01:10 AM Author Report Posted February 7, 2005 at 01:10 AM If the sentence means "fine, I like it" I'd say, "It's ok." "It's ok" usually means "so-so" Q: Do you like tofu? A: It's ok. "Come on" is often used when you are being incredulous. Quote
