For example, a sentence I've seen the word in recently was 「在古代造字的初期，大部份的漢字的確是象形的，但是到了後來，象形字只佔漢字的一小部份，並且演變到了楷書就難看到象形的痕跡了。」 Without more context for the note the OP posted, I tried to be more neutral in my translation.
