have China Student X Visa but will be going to HK first. Is that allowed?

Hi, I already got my Student X Visa to China and will be going to Beijing at the end of August. However, I will be going first to Hong Kong around 3rd week of August and will be coming back to the Philippines before going to Beijing at the end of the month. Since there is no visa required for Philippine residents to go to HK, I thought that would be possible so I already bought my flight tickets to both. But a friend recently told me that entering and leaving HK would be equivalent to entering and leaving China and so my student visa would be void if I do that since my visa is only for single entry. Is that true? or can I still enter China at the end of August even if I went to HK first?

Your friend is wrong. Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China are like three different 'countries' as far as border crossings are concerned. Visiting Hong Kong won't have any effect on the validity of your Chinese visa for the Mainland.

Your friend is indeed totally wrong.

@Jose @liuzhou Thanks for the info. Hope I can indeed travel to HK without affecting my visa to China.

Should be fine. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

Already went to Hong Kong and the airport immigration didn't even look at my student visa so I guess it is ok.

OP, that's because as the first person who replied has stated, Hong Kong features a separate immigration system to that of mainland China. Your Chinese student visa is not even valid in Hong Kong. If you wanted to study in Hong Kong, you would require a separate visa or permission to study from the Hong Kong government.
