New Members ethan Posted August 17, 2012 at 11:26 PM New Members Report Share Posted August 17, 2012 at 11:26 PM Hello! I'm about to purchase these two vases, and i'm hoping someone can help read their marks. I've attempted to do some image-matching with a couple seal script fonts and spent days researching. (Used a duplicate image finder, BabelMap, and two fonts from http://www.ibiblio.o.../08fea/c02.html) But it seems the style varies considerably because it is a stylized and artistic way of writing... Plus, i know very few traditional Chinese characters to compare to! This site has been very helpful too, in understanding the style-- http://www.tglin.idv.tw/essay/zuan.htm thank you for any pointers. -Ethan
unicar Posted August 20, 2012 at 12:16 PM Report Share Posted August 20, 2012 at 12:16 PM the first one should be "中艺陶瓷“, second "景德镇制”....but the first picture must be put upside down...
New Members ethan Posted August 21, 2012 at 01:45 AM Author New Members Report Share Posted August 21, 2012 at 01:45 AM Great, thank you very much! "Chinese Arts and Crafts" seems like the first one, but i wasn't able to find any info about their work. The red one is Jingdezhen, and of course well known, but this one is probably fairly new. I will try to look into how their marks have changed over the years.
