New Members heatherfaye02 Posted August 21, 2012 at 09:29 PM New Members Report Share Posted August 21, 2012 at 09:29 PM Ok I know there is no Chinese Alpahabet but this tattoo I got was supposed to mean J for my son's J name. His name is not common so we just went with the initial. Can someone please tell me if it's even close or what it might be litteraly? Thank you sooo much! The picture should actually be rotated once to the right. Sorry
Shelley Posted August 22, 2012 at 02:05 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 02:05 PM As you say yourself there is no chinese alphabet so it can not really be an intial but in this case the choice made has not been to bad. I think this is 基 ji. It means base or foundation. i think you have ben lucky in as much as it isn't to far fetched. The calligraphy though leaves something to be desired but again its not the worst i have seen. In chinese it is pronounced jee not jay as the letter is in english but again this is not to bad. If you want to get another chinese tattoo, I would suggest some research as you might not be so lucky next time:)
New Members heatherfaye02 Posted August 22, 2012 at 02:18 PM Author New Members Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 02:18 PM I had maybe considered that as well, but then at looking at your symbol you thought it might be, they really don't look alike. So I still think it may be something else. Thank you so much for your help. I will not be getting anymore tattoos of thus sort for sure! skylee Posted August 22, 2012 at 02:46 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 02:46 PM But ... it also means gay. Well, good luck. Also, the last stroke (the horizontal at the bottom) is broken so now it looks as if there is a dot on the right of that stroke. But it is not too bad. 外国赤佬 Posted August 22, 2012 at 04:15 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 04:15 PM Yes, the single 基 nowadays would probably stand for ‘gay’, especially as a tattoo.
imron Posted August 22, 2012 at 10:19 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 10:19 PM but then at looking at your symbol you thought it might be, they really don't look alike The differences are simply stylistic ones related to the font. I agree that it is 基.
Shelley Posted August 22, 2012 at 11:05 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 11:05 PM The reason it dosen't look exactly the same is stylistic as imron says but also due to the fact that it has not been done very well. Also, the last stroke (the horizontal at the bottom) is broken so now it looks as if there is a dot on the right of that stroke. I am sorry but it is just one of those things, tattoo artists are not necassarly good at writing chinese characters.
