Writing Like Speaking

If I write exactly how I speak (assuming I speak with the right grammar and vocabulary) is that acceptable at least in the beginning?

I'm always thrown off by the things that are written mainly but not spoken. Lately I've started doing a lot of writing and am really never sure if what I write is suitable or not - even though I know if I said the exact same thing out loud they would understand me.

That's OK for now. Later you will need to learn some "bookish" vocabulary and constructions. (Shumian 书面) The transition is not entirely painless.
