New Members trasder Posted August 22, 2012 at 08:35 AM New Members Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 08:35 AM Hi all, In found the following sentence in a children book (Little Red Riding Hood, actually): 老狼得意地向奶奶家走去,心想,这下我可以吃到一个小姑娘和一个老太婆了。 Being an absolute beginner, I have some problems with verbal complements. How would you translate the second part of the sentence, especially the 到? Is it something like "I will finally manage to eat..."? (not sure whether this is a question for the grammar forum or for the vocabulary form)
creamyhorror Posted August 22, 2012 at 03:50 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 03:50 PM [verb]到 = manage to, get to [do verb] e.g. 听到、看不到、做得到 So yes, "I'll get to eat a maiden and a granny."
crystal123 Posted August 30, 2012 at 10:32 PM Report Share Posted August 30, 2012 at 10:32 PM I think here "到“ means "成功”,succeed so "吃到“ means succeed to eat 到:1、从别处来,come from other place, example:到达,到站,到来,到场,到职 2、往,go to , example:到群众中去 3、周全,全顾得到,thorough,example:周到,面面俱到 4、成功,succeed,example:得到,办到,吃到,听到
