WannaLearn Posted February 9, 2005 at 09:38 AM Report Posted February 9, 2005 at 09:38 AM Hi, I am starting to study Mandarin Chinese and I would like to know which Grammar and workbook materials would you recommend for self-study. Thank you in advance! Quote
Haoqide Posted February 9, 2005 at 08:14 PM Report Posted February 9, 2005 at 08:14 PM I don't have a whole ton of knowledge as far as which Chinese grammar books are good and which ones aren't, but if you're wanting to get a solid start in the language, I recommend "Teach Yourself Chinese Complete Course". It's got CDs and a book that goes with it, and it'll give you a decent, solid basis in the language. I also have a great book from Taiwan, something called "Audio Visual Chinese" that teaches you the traditional characters for words as you learn them, and that's great. It comes with tapes, but they're painfully slow-moving, so I don't use them. Here's the ISBN number for that book: 957-09-1237-5 It actually has several levels, but I only have 1 and 2. I'm really enjoying it because it's helping me a lot with character recognition. Hope this helps! If you're looking for more online resources, you can find some on my site, which is HERE. Quote
