New Members lovingmuse Posted September 14, 2012 at 01:39 PM New Members Report Share Posted September 14, 2012 at 01:39 PM Dear forum members, I started my Chinese course at the university a couple of weeks ago. Today I've found a very peculiar book (well, at least it's peculiar for me). Could you please tell me something about it?
imron Posted September 14, 2012 at 11:43 PM Report Share Posted September 14, 2012 at 11:43 PM It appears to be a Japanese-Chinese dictionary, published in the mid 1930's. It also uses a word for 'Chinese' in its title that is considered derogatory.
Glenn Posted September 15, 2012 at 12:48 AM Report Share Posted September 15, 2012 at 12:48 AM Yeah, it seems to be 1935, to be exact. Interesting that it has a Chinese-Manchurian sound-comparison chart (but it also makes sense, considering the time period). Also interesting is that they seem to have invented a character for [ŋ].
